The Mactan Newtown Welcomes new BPO locator Manulife in June

In January, Megaworld Corporation announced that it is developing the former Portofino Beach to form part of the township, making The Mactan Newtown poised to become the first Cyberpark with its own beach. The announcement produces strong interest among top BPO companies with overwhleming inquiries to set up operations in Mactan Newtown. Megaworld is fast-tracking the construction of its state-of-the-art office towers to boost more employment in Cebu, particularly in Mactan Island and expected to generate around 45,000 jobs in the next 5 to 7 years.
By second half 2014, the offices at the 8 Newtown Boulevard, a 4-tower mix used Development, will also start operations, adding 35,000 square meters of office space inventory.
The Two World Center office Tower in Mactan Newtown is expected to start its operation in June this year after the Canada-based Manulife has leased out the entire building for its operations in Cebu, thus, the new name of the Building will be Manulife. The 6-storey Manulife corporate building with over 7,000 square meters of spaces will be able to accommodate around 1,200 employees.
Manulife will be the 3rd BPO company next to Results Manila and EnfraUSA to establish operations in Megaworld's 28.8-hectare township in Cebu - The Mactan Newtown, all BPO companies are first time Iocators in Cebu. BPO-IT companies, US-based Enfra USA and Results Manila occupies the township’s first office tower, One World Center. Both companies employ more than 2,000 employees today. The new Manulife will have its MBP Manulife Business Processing and Software Management services with its operations here in Cebu and will hire new recruits. The Manulife Office in Keppel will still remain its operations.

"Megaworld is constructing at least 5 to 10 more office towers in The Mactan Newtown by 2021 to reach the target of 150,000 square meters of office space inventory" said Jericho P. Go, Megaworld First Vice President. “Due to an overwhelming demand of office spaces and significant growth of the BPO industry in Cebu, we are doing a massive infrastructure push in the township. We have received inquiries left and right from top BPO companies that are interested to set up operations in our township.” he added.
