What started as a small gathering of Cebu's brightest now emerged as an annual coming together of future leaders at a national scope.
Aboitiz Future Leaders Business Summit (AFLBS) is an annual gathering of about one hundred delegates among thousands of applicants across the Philippines to listen and learn straight from the executives of one of the country's best-managed companies and renowned resource speakers. The 8th Aboitiz Future Leaders Business Summit is held at Marco Polo Hotel Cebu City with this year's theme "Significantly Changing My Philippines." The Aboitiz Group observes Earth Hour 2012 with its efforts to reduce Carbon footprint by partnering with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Cebu City Government. The Aboitiz Group and its partners will join millions of filipinos and worldwide in turning off inessential lights for an hour, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on March 31, 2012, to conserve energy and lessen carbon dioxide emissions.
This year’s Earth Hour theme is “Uniting Filipinos to Protect the Planet” The World Wildlife Fund will have a live streaming broadcast of the simultaneous Earth Hour activities taking place in Philippine cities like Manila and Davao. A messages of President Benigno Aquino III and international leaders of WWF will also be expected. Before the start of Earth Hour co-founder Andy Ridley will deliver his keynote message, which will also be shown through live streaming.

Aboitiz Foundation partnered with Mandaue City Government and the Department of Education (DepEd) Sponsors the Construction of 26 Classrooms to Mandaue City Public Schools. A total of 26 classrooms will be constructed for Canduman Elementary School, Subangdaku Technical Vocational School, Tingub High School, Cabancalan 1 Elementary School, Banilad Elementary School (Mandaue City), and Mandaue City Central School. Construction will start this month and is due for completion in February 2012 - specifically February 14, 2012.

Stakeholders in the partnership to build and refurbish classrooms in Mandaue City are optimistic that the project could help them achieve their respective goals of addressing the lack of classrooms. Presentduring the signing last October 1 were (from left) Mandaue City Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede, Mayor Jonas Cortes, Foundation president Jon Ramon Aboitiz, and DepEd Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Nimfa Bongo. A separate signing of agreements with the principals of the beneficiary schools was is led by Foundation EVP & Managing Trustee Sonny Carpio.
26 Classrooms, Baking Laboratories and Science Laboratories
Aside from building classrooms, the baking laboratories of Cabancalan National High School and Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School, and the science laboratories of Jagobiao National High School and Mandaue City Science High School, will undergo refurbishment.
Aboitiz Foundation President Jon Ramon Aboitiz said they chose Mandaue City as their beneficiary because its officials have been responsive in allocating counterpart funds for the Foundation’s projects.
“This (partnership) is a very good example of … networking to be able to give Mandaue City residents better education and better opportunities,” he added.
Mayor Jonas Cortes, for his part, said the project is timely considering that the City Government has just kicked off its celebration of Children’s Month.
He also said that the project will help address the perennial problem of classroom shortage in the city’s public schools. (Mandaue City needs 200 more classrooms in both the elementary and secondary levels)
Aboitiz  Foundation has approved P21 million for the implementation of these projects; the City Government will shoulder the remaining P9 million as counterpart.

Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) pioneers the creation of KOOL ADVENTURE CAMP, an Outdoor Education Center in the Philippnes situated at Barangay Cansumoroy, Balamban, Cebu last Mar. 26.
It will house outdoor high and low challenge courses, indoor challenge courses, corporate conference halls, training halls, trekking trails, dining & kitchen facilities, tent areas, youth bunks and corporate cabins. It will also feature the High Element Challenge Cluster, a challenge course that combines both low initiatives and high ropes courses in one, and an Iconic Structure, a multi-face, a multi-element high challenge ropes course.

The groundbreaking was graced by RAFI President Roberto E. Aboitiz, RAFI Executive Committee Chair Ma. Cristina C. Aboitiz, RAFI Chief Operating Officer Dominica B. Chua, Balamban Mayor Ace Stefan V. Binghay, and Department of Education 7 Regional Director Recaredo G. Borgonia.

New Filipino-made Facebook game to Educate Public on how to reduce their carbon footprint
While many people talk about the importance of saving the environment, very few really take on the proactive role in addressing the issue. Not many of them, in fact, know that switching from disposable plastic bottles to reusable ones can create a big overall impact in preserving the resources of our planet.
With this in mind, ABOITIZ, one of the Philippines’ leading companies is launching a Facebook game application that is geared towards educating people about the concepts of carbon footprint and cleaner and renewable sources of energy and how being responsible and mindful of their activities could help achieve this end.

The game is called Alter Space, and it is the first Philippine-made Facebook game that directly addresses the greater public about the ways with which they could do their share in proactively contributing to the preservation of the Earth’s resources.
Social games are a significant draw for social networking site users. As of this writing, a staggering 56 million Facebook users play daily and 290 million play monthly. Up to 265 million Facebook gamers, meanwhile, spend 210 minutes playing games. Twenty-percent of these game players even pay cash for in-game benefits.
In the Philippines, 54 percent of social networking site users cite gaming as the reason they log on. There are currently 18,124,220 Filipinos on Facebook.
Alter Space is easy to use. Game players’ mission is to take care of their own little planet. They do this by keeping their carbon footprint levels low, while still keeping their Happiness levels up. They will have to accomplish fun tasks and challenges while their carbon footprint is measured.
Every choice they make affects their environment, and the game always gives feedback as to whether the player’s choice was environmentally sound or not. They can also invite friends to be their neighbors, and their over-all carbon footprint as a community will be calculated.
If they fail to make the cleaner and greener choice, their virtual planet will experience disasters like Smog, which cause their avatar to lose interaction, and Heat Wave, wherein they will have to perform extra tasks or pay a fee to bring their carbon footprint down.
Aside from the carbon footprint calculator, game players’ progress is also measured through their Happiness level, Current-cy, and Experience points.
Mini-games, meanwhile, provide game players an interactive way with which they could learn more about the different sources of cleaner and renewable energy. Harvesting alternative energy is how they earn points in their planet—a significant function of the game that encourages players to seek out and use alternative energy.
These mini-games include Solar, wherein they are tasked to catch as many sunbeams as they can; Geo, wherein they are asked to click the steam that goes out of the valves of hot spots; and Hydro, wherein they create a passageway for the water to reach turbines.
Practical tips, trivia and other features guide players along as they strive to make their virtual planet a cleaner and greener one.
While addressing the bigger issues of carbon footprint reduction and environmental preservation, Alter Space employs some uniquely Filipino features in doing so. The use of pamaypay (native fan), the playing of the game sungka, and eating what we call “dirty ice cream” are incorporated into the game for that distinct Filipino flavor.
Clearly, Alter Space is one social game to watch out for. It’s free and anyone with a Facebook account could easily play the game. And while they are kept entertained, they, too, learn how they could do their bit in reducing their carbon footprint and helping preserve environmental resources to help achieve a better future for both people and planet.

The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) introduced the refreshed RAFI to its communication partners in a launching last Jan. 25 at Casino Español de Cebu.
The event was the first of the series of external brand launches that RAFI will hold this year after the Foundation launched its brand internally last Sept. 7, 2010. It was attended by RAFI’s communication partners, including media, suppliers, service providers, and academe, among others.
The refreshed identity of RAFI manifests the Foundation’s decision to upscale its core initiatives and ensure that its more than 160 employees have a uniform and comprehensive understanding in order to bring more impact in the communities where it works.
RAFI’s Vision is “Touching People, Shaping the Future.”
“Because so much time has past, it was a good time to revisit our core principles, philosophy and programs. A time to insure we have a uniform and comprehensive understanding of who we are and what our vision is. The ‘Branding Project’ we have been working on for one and half years is designed to secure this alignment. I think we now have a refreshed and powerful definition of our soul and purpose as an organization, and a clear understanding of what we want to achieve. The Aboitiz Race to Reduce Challenge: A Race for the Next Gen is coming up!
The race, which features four categories – 3k, 5k, 10k and 21k – will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at the South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City, covering the entire stretch of the SRP until parts of Talisay City. Assembly time is at 4 AM and starting gun fires off at 5:00 AM. A relaxing foot massage, a hearty breakfast, and a photo op in front of the Race to Reduce photo wall await runners crossing the finish line.

Aboitiz Race to Reduce Challenge 2010 will promote Greener Environment.
The “race for the next gen” is part of the Aboitiz Group’s information campaign on its sustainability efforts. “We are not just promoting a healthy lifestyle, we want to leave a good home for the next generation,” said Sebastian Lacson, Aboitiz Equity Ventures Chief Reputation Officer.
Aboitiz companies groupwide are participating in an ongoing Race to Reduce Challenge, which encourages employees to reduce their consumption of power, water, and paper. CEBU CITY, CEBU-The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation (RAFI) Triennial Awards is calling on the public to nominate unsung heroes in the Visayas and Mindanao for the fifth run of the Ramon Aboitiz Award for Exemplary Individual and the Eduardo Aboitiz Award for Outstanding Institution.
Nominations are also accepted from government agencies, non-government organizations, people’s organizations, civil society, academe and the business sector.
